Pa La-U Durian was first introduced to the Pa La-U area around 1984. The first person to cultivate durian in the area was Mr. Payung Phrai Yai, who brought Kan Yao durian seeds from Nonthaburi Province and Monthong durian varieties from Rayong Province. He initially planted 100 trees as a trial. The trees produced high-quality fruit with distinctive characteristics that differed from the original varieties grown in both provinces.

The distinctive characteristics of Pa La-U Durian are closely connected to the unique growing conditions of Huai Sat Yai Subdistrict, where mountain ranges alternate with low-lying plains and the Pran Buri River flows through the area. The fertile land benefits from a year-round water supply, high relative humidity, and cooler temperatures at night. During the rainy season, water flows down from the surrounding mountains, carrying minerals and nutrients into the agricultural areas. The sandy soil provides good drainage and prevents water from remaining in the ground for too long, creating ideal conditions for durian cultivation. Together, these natural factors give Pa La-U Durian its distinctive identity and unique characteristics.

Pa La-U Durian is known for its large fruit, typically weighing between 1.5 and 5 kilograms each. The fruit has an oval shape, a pointed base, sharp spines, and clearly defined segments.

The rind is greenish brown, while the pale-yellow flesh is thick, smooth, and fine-textured. Its relatively dry texture delivers a rich, creamy flavour that is more pronounced than its sweetness, complemented by a mild aroma and pleasant taste. These characteristics make Pa La-U Durian an excellent choice for international visitors and Thai consumers who prefer durian with a less intense aroma.

Even if you usually avoid durian because of its strong aroma, Pa La-U Durian is well worth a try. Its mild fragrance and rich, creamy flavour may be just right for your taste.

Pa La-U Monthong Durian is produced according to clearly defined quality standards to ensure consistency and consumer confidence. Each fruit must reach approximately 85% ripeness and carry an identification label showing its place of origin and best-before date. This system supports effective quality control and allows each durian to be traced back to its production source.
